At the home of a Brighton Belle

Knock, knock. Who's there? Well for a fair amount of time, Lady Valerie Susie Bruce Meux. Behind this door knocker is her former seaside home in Eastern Terrace in the Kemptown area of Brighton, Sussex, on the south coast of England. It is truly fabulous.
In 2021, the property came up for sale and the agents, Foster & Co Estate Agents promoted the property with a YouTube video which, luckily for us, is still available view (see below). And this is how they described the property:
"An exceedingly rare opportunity to own a double-fronted, grade 2-listed, regency mansion on Brighton seafront. Measuring c.10,000 sq.ft., this magnificent Kemptown property enjoys panoramic sea views whilst providing unparalleled elegance across six storeys of beautiful Georgian architecture. Built in 1828, this former home to a King of Portugal maintains a magnitude of original features including stunning alabaster pillars, ornate marble fireplaces, decorative integral wall paintings, intricate plasterwork and perhaps Brighton’s most spectacular staircase. No. 9 has been home to the same family for 25 years and now offers a unique opportunity for a new owner to stamp their mark on history."
Now, of course, the house may have changed a lot since her death in 1910, but this video certainly will give you a taste of what it might be like to live there. Press Play ... and dream.
