How times have changed

Updated: Mar 27

Cedar's Park and Theobald's Park were once one and the same. Take this fascinating drone flight and see how time has changed the landscape.

At 3.43, the drone heads towards Theobald's Park, over the A10, the New River and then to the house itself. Until the late 1970s, the Great Cambridge Road passed through the towns of Broxbourne, Hoddesdon and Ware. This new road now by-passes these towns. The ruins of Theobalds Palace, a favoured residence of James I, can be found in Cedar's Park. The king died there in 1625. Queen Elizabeth I also visited Theobalds many times.

The park was given to the local authority in 1919 by Admiral of the Fleet the Hon. Sir Hedworth Meux and it opened in to the public in 1921. The admiral inherited The Cedars from Valerie, Lady Meux.
